We can help you with Segregated Funds. What is the difference between these and Mutual Funds?
MUTUAL FUNDS
Investor money is pooled into a fund managed by a qualified investment firm and can be diversified, thereby minimizing market fluctuations.
SEGREGATED FUNDS
Similar to Mutual Funds with regards to the investment pooling. The main difference is that these funds include guarantees upon death and maturity that can protect some or all of the principle amount invested.
MUTUAL FUNDS
- Lower fees (no death and maturity guarantees)
- Investment options – many to choose from, which can be customized to your own unique goals and risk tolerance
SEGREGATED FUNDS
- Death and maturity guarantees (75% or 100%) – Upon death, your named beneficiary will receive the higher of the market value or the guaranteed amount of your investments. These guarantees also offer protections against market fluctuations and volatility by guaranteeing some or all of the principle investment back upon the policy maturity date.
- Estate Planning – Named beneficiaries receive funds outside of the estate/probate process, thereby reducing the taxes and fees associated with winding up an estate. This also allows funds to be received faster (normally withing a few weeks of filing the claim). Note: Mutual Funds also allow for the transfer to a spouse without triggering tax implications.
- Reset/Lock-In Market Gains – the ability to lock in the gains on your principle investment as a new guaranteed amount (for an additional fee)
- Liability protection – Assets may be protected from lawsuit(s)
- Creditor protection – Registered and non-registered assets can be passed to specific named beneficiaries (spouse, child), potentially offering protection from creditors. (Note: Creditor Protection + Liability Protection = Excellent choice for business owners)
